We are in a world of sin and temptation; all around us are souls perishing out of Christ, and God wants us to labor for them in every way possible. If you have a pleasant home, invite to it the youth who have no home, those who are in need of help, who long for sympathy and kind words, for respect and courtesy.142Testimonies for the Church 6:348.
Our homes should be a place of refuge for the tempted youth. Many there are who stand at the parting of the ways. Every influence, every impression, is determining the choice that shapes their destiny both here and hereafter. Evil invites them. Its resorts are made bright and attractive. They have a welcome for every comer. All about us are youth who have no home, and many whose homes have no helpful, uplifting power, and the youth drift into evil….
These youth need a hand stretched out to them in sympathy…. If we would … invite them to our homes, and surround them with cheering, helpful influences, there are many who would gladly turn their steps into the upward path.143The Ministry of Healing, 354, 355.
The season of prayer makes its impression on those who receive entertainment, and even one visit may mean the saving of a soul from death.144Testimonies for the Church 6:347.
Let visitors see that we are striving to conform to the will of Christ…. The very atmosphere of a truly Christian home is that of peace and restfulness. Such an example will not be without effect.145The Adventist Home, 450.
As you open your door to Christ’s needy and suffering ones, you are welcoming unseen angels. You invite the companionship of heavenly beings. They bring a sacred atmosphere of joy and peace. They come with praises upon their lips, and an answering strain is heard in heaven. Every deed of mercy makes music there.146The Desire of Ages, 639.

Dear Friends,
Some years ago, Esther was asked to give the children’s story at church on the spur of the moment. The person who was supposed to have the story wasn’t there, so Esther told one of my grandfather’s stories. Both children and adults were interested.
Just as Esther was prepared to tell a story even though she hadn’t planned on it because I had told her my grandfather’s stories when she was a little girl, so God asks us to teach our children His Holy Word. He commands, “And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.” Deut 6:6, 7
Such was the experience of Timothy. Paul reminds him, “When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.” 2 Tim 1:5; 3:15-17 – 4:2 Even though his father was heathen, his mother and grandmother carefully taught him the Scriptures. Because of this careful training, Timothy became a great worker for the Lord by drawing upon what he had learned from them.
May we be very zealous in sharing God’s Holy Word with our children and grandchildren, that they may grow to love our Dear Saviour with their whole being and serve Him always is my prayer.
