Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 2 Peter 1:4.
The Saviour took upon Himself the infirmities of humanity, and lived a sinless life, that men might have no fear that because of the weakness of human nature they could not overcome.
“The prince of this world cometh,” said Jesus, “and hath nothing in me.” John 14:30. There was in Him nothing that responded to Satan’s sophistry. He did not consent to sin. Not even by a thought did He yield to temptation. So it may be with us. Christ’s humanity was united with divinity; He was fitted for the conflict by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. And He came to make us partakers of the divine nature. So long as we are united to Him by faith, sin has no more dominion over us.
We need not retain one sinful propensity…. As we partake of the divine nature, hereditary and cultivated tendencies to wrong are cut away from the character, and we are made a living power for good. Ever learning of the divine Teacher, daily partaking of His nature, we cooperate with God in overcoming Satan’s temptations.
How this is accomplished, Christ has shown us. By what means did He overcome in the conflict with Satan? By the Word of God. Only by the Word could He resist temptation. “It is written,” He said. And unto us are given “exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature….” Every promise in God’s Word is ours…. When assailed by temptation, look not to circumstances or to the weakness of self, but to the power of the Word. All its strength is yours.
Grasp His promises as leaves from the tree of life: “Him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.” John 6:37. As you come to Him, believe that He accepts you, because He has promised. You can never perish while you do this—never.

Dear Friends,
Even before Ron and I had children, we determined that if at all possible, we would not take them to a babysitter.  We were very serious about bringing “them in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.”  Eph 6:4  Throughout the years, we found that there were times when we had to let someone else watch our children; but for the most part, we “juggled” our schedules in such a way that one of us was home to train up our children in the way that they should go.  (Prov 22:6)
For awhile, I worked at a fast food restaurant from 10:00 PM to 4:00 AM.  Working nights was hard for me and I got little sleep with toddlers in the house but felt it was worth being home with my children during the day.  At work, I did all of the baking, sliced the vegetables, and had various other duties some of which I found most unpleasant.
One of the least favorite part of my job was using the large slicing machine.  I was really afraid of the whirling blade.  I have never been very coordinated, and I was afraid that my fingers as well as the food might get sliced.  The onions posed the greatest danger.  They were very strong and would always sting my eyes so badly that tears would course down my cheeks and I could not keep my eyes open no matter how hard I tried.  Running a slicing machine with closed eyes is a very dangerous thing to do.
When I told Ron about my problem, he suggested that I take his skin diving mask to work and use it when slicing those strong onions.  That worked very well!  I looked very silly, but I didn’t care.  At least the fumes from the onions didn’t bother me any more.
Just as that mask protected my eyes from the fumes of those strong smelling onions, so our Loving Redeemer has provided us with a protection from the onslaughts of the enemy.  Daily, we are to “put on the whole armour of God, that [we] may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”  Eph 6:11-17  “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”  Heb 4:12
May we “be sober [and] vigilant; because [our] adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”  1 Peter 5:8,9  May we diligently resist the evil one; for we have the promise that if we do, he will flee from us.  (James 4:7)  May we daily be “born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.” Amen.  1 Peter 1:23
