And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John 1:14.

Jesus is called the Word of God. He accepted His Father’s law, wrought out its principles in His life, manifested its spirit, and showed its beneficent power in the heart. Says John: “The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” 43Testimonies for the Church 5:576.

All that man needs to know or can know of God has been revealed in the life and character of His Son….

Taking humanity upon Him, Christ came to be one with humanity and at the same time to reveal our heavenly Father to sinful human beings. He was in all things made like unto His brethren. He became flesh, even as we are. He was hungry and thirsty and weary. He was sustained by food and refreshed by sleep. He shared the lot of men, and yet He was the blameless Son of God….

Tender, compassionate, sympathetic, ever considerate of others, He represented the character of God, and was constantly engaged in service for God and man.44Testimonies for the Church 8:286.

The followers of Christ must be partakers of His experience. They must assimilate the Word of God. They must be changed into its likeness by the power of Christ and reflect the divine attributes…. The spirit and work of Christ must become the spirit and work of His disciples.45Testimonies for the Church 5:576.

In the study of the Bible the converted soul eats the flesh and drinks the blood of the Son of God, which He Himself interprets as the receiving and doing of His words, that are spirit and life. The Word is made flesh, and dwells among us, in those who receive the holy precepts of the Word of God. The Saviour of the world has left a holy, pure example for all men. It illuminates, uplifts, and brings immortality to all who obey the divine requirements.46Fundamentals of Christian Education, 378.

Dear Friends,

Each week, I play the piano for Sabbath School in the Primary Department. Over the sixty-plus years I’ve been working in the various children’s divisions I’ve watched these little ones grow and mature. I have had favorites over the years, they were those who were well-behaved and eager to learn.

Little children believe the people they love and respect. They have perfect trust and confidence in them. Jesus wants us to have that same trust in Him. He wants us to be attentive hearers like those children who are such a joy because of their attitude. Mary Magdalene was just such an attentive hearer as Jesus wishes we all would be. One day, when she was attentively listening to His every word, her sister Martha stomped into the room and said, “’Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.” And Jesus answered and said unto her, ‘Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.’” Luke 10:40-42 Because of Mary’s clinging to the words of Christ, she understood more of His mission and had the privilege of being the first to see her Risen Lord. (Matt 26:12, 13; John 20:11-18)

Unless we, too, have that same perfect trust in our Heavenly Father, we will fail to reach our goal. Unless we love Him completely and attentively listen to His every word, we will eventually grow careless and turn away from Him. Jesus bids us, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.” Matt 22:37 Mary’s whole-hearted experience is what He desires us all to have, because it is that whole-hearted experience that gives us the perfect love, the perfect trust, the perfect heart that unites our heart with His Great Heart of Love.

May we take hold of our Dear Saviour’s Outstretched Hand and walk with Him in perfect love and confidence all the way to His Heavenly Kingdom is my prayer.

Rose
